Another day of extreme heat rewrote the record books across central North Carolina. Raleigh-Durham International Airport officially reached 97 degrees, breaking the previous record of 97 set in 1944. Elsewhere, temperatures topped 100 degrees in some communities, while the Sandhills fell just short of record territory.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n

The latest record marks the 15th daily high temperature record at RDU in 2026, tying 2007 for the most record highs ever recorded in a single year. With more than six months still remaining, there is a good chance that mark will be surpassed before year\u2019s end.<\/p>\n

The cooler stretch will be short-lived. Heat quickly rebuilds by the middle of the week, with highs returning to the mid-90s Wednesday and approaching the upper 90s Thursday. <\/p>\n

Additional record highs could once again be challenged before temperatures settle closer to seasonal averages heading into Father\u2019s Day weekend.<\/p>\n
