RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) \u2014 Thousands of customers across the Triangle lost power on Friday morning as the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur moved through central North Carolina, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds and thunderstorms.<\/p>\n

According to Duke Energy\u2019s outage map, one of the largest outages was reported in north Raleigh, where about 1,816 customers were without electricity as of 8 a.m.<\/p>\n

The outage was centered near Falls of Neuse Road and Ravenscroft Drive. Raleigh police told CBS 17 that multiple traffic signals were out along Falls of Neuse Road from Ravenscroft Drive to Sandy Forks Road, creating hazardous driving conditions for the morning commute.<\/p>\n

Duke Energy estimated power would be restored to the affected Raleigh customers by about 10:15 a.m.<\/p>\n

Another significant outage was reported in Durham near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and Old Chapel Hill Road. Approximately 820 customers were without power there Friday morning, with service expected to be restored around 10 a.m., according to the outage map.<\/p>\n

The outages came as bands of rain and thunderstorms associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur swept across central North Carolina.<\/p>\n

CBS 17 declared Friday an Alert Day because of the potential for severe weather during the morning hours. Forecasters said the system could produce damaging wind gusts, heavy rainfall, frequent lightning and a low risk of a brief tornado.<\/p>\n

Most of the rain and storms were expected to move out of the area by Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n
