(Greg Funderburg \/ CBS 17)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt is really challenging when you have to go home to someone else\u2019s because you can\u2019t afford your own,\u201d said Anderson.<\/p>\n<p>Durham Association of Educators says hundreds of classified DPS employees, including bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria workers, instructional assistants, and front office staff, continue to struggle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe county commissioners ask for an alternative budget to be presented by the county manager, one that includes increased funding for Durham public schools,\u201d said Durham Association of Educators President Mika Twietmeyer.<\/p>\n<p>Commissioner Stephen Valentine says it\u2019s heartbreaking to\u00a0hear what some employees face.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/raleighmovingnews.com\/?p=357\">\u2018Yellowstone\u2019 star Lainey Wilson marries Devlin Hodges<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a county commissioner, it\u2019s painful to hear people working but not being able to pay their rent,\u201d said Valentine.<\/p>\n<p>And he plans to take what was said to share with his fellow\u00a0commissioners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt may not happen this particular cycle, but we have to come up with a long-term plan for how we are going to solve these problems, not just county but all of our partners, federal\u00a0partners, state partners,\u201d said Valentine.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s an issue DAE leaders say will not go away, and they\u2019re hoping for the 12% increase for classified employees. <\/p>\n<section>\n<div>\n<h2>MORE FROM CBS 17<\/h2>\n<section>\n<h2>\n<p>\t\tDURHAM COUNTY NEWS<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<div>\n<article>\n<!-- Next line is not the perfect\/ideal way to control hiding the items.
