FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) \u2014 A family was forced to make a heartbreaking decision after their loved one was seriously injured in a Forsyth County crash.<\/p>

Five days after a crash left 61-year-old Bob Marcis with life-threatening injuries, his family has decided to take him off life support.<\/p>\n

Don Marcis says his son\u2019s life was never supposed to end like this. His family is in Wisconsin, and his father couldn\u2019t make the trip, so he video-called to see his son one last time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll miss his phone calls,\u00a0happy birthday, happy Father\u2019s Day, Merry Christmas, and all that. We talked a lot at least once a week,\u201d Marcis said.<\/p>\n

The Crash<\/h2>\n

Bob Marcis had left work early Thursday afternoon for an eye exam. His family says that\u2019s what brought him to the intersection of Patterson Avenue and Germanton Road around 2:45 p.m.<\/p>\n

There, Eleazar Bernadino Medina, 16, allegedly crashed into Bob Marcis\u2019s vehicle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Police say Medina had been \u201cdriving erratically\u201d in the area of Indiana Avenue and North Patterson Avenue earlier that afternoon. When officers tried to pull him over, he reportedly refused to stop. Police started to pursue Medina but called it off due to high speeds.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement attempted another stop when the vehicle was spotted again driving erratically. The vehicle sped off and crashed at the intersection of Patterson Avenue and Germanton Road, hitting Bob Marcis\u2019s vehicle.<\/p>\n

Medina was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, felony hit and run with serious injury or death, felony fleeing to elude arrest, misdemeanor reckless driving to endanger, misdemeanor speeding, misdemeanor resisting a public officer, misdemeanor no operators license and failing to stop at a steady red light. <\/p>\n

Medina\u2019s mother, Adilene Medina Calleja, 35, was charged with misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and misdemeanor allowing an unlicensed driver.<\/p>

Remembering Bob Marcis<\/h2>\n

Bob Marcis\u2019s family made the difficult choice to take him off life support five days after the crash.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe would be bedridden and need constant care, you know, feeding. Probably a nursing home type of thing, and he would not want that,\u201d said his brother, Bill Marcis.<\/p>\n

His family takes some comfort in knowing that Bob was an organ donor, so a piece of Bob will live on, giving others the gift of life.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m pretty proud of his decision to do that. It makes me feel good to know that he has given back. We\u2019ve been given life, and he is giving it back to help others, so that\u2019s something to be proud of,\u201d said Bill.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a lot his family has to be proud of. They say Bob was hardworking, landing a job with his uncle, NASCAR driver Dave Marcis.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe went south, got a job with my uncle, worked for him, I\u2019m thinking about 20 years,\u201d\u00a0said Bill.<\/p>\n

Bill says his brother even tried out racing for himself.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His brother also says Bob was strong. He was a cancer survivor, and, in a bittersweet twist, his family learned Bob is\u00a0still cancer-free.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen they did the brain scan for the accident MRI, that they did that showed the tear that he was cancer-free,\u201d said Bill.<\/p>
