CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS<\/strong>) \u2014 Two people have been rushed to the hospital after a two-alarm fire burned several apartments, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.<\/p>

Around 3:20 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, Charlotte Fire said its crews were responding to a large fire in the 6000 block of Delta Crossing Lane. This is at an apartment complex off East W.T. Harris Boulevard.<\/p>\n

Firefighters arrived to see heavy fire, and a second alarm was called, bringing additional crews to help. <\/p>\n

It took 60 firefighters 51 minutes to control the blaze. Firefighters rescued two people and one pet from the building. <\/p>\n

Officials say one person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and a second person was also taken to the hospital.<\/p>

In total, eight apartments were damaged. The Red Cross is helping those who were displaced.<\/p>\n

East W.T. Harris Boulevard was closed between Albermarle Road and North Sharon Amity\u00a0Road during the incident. <\/p>\n

Fire officials believe the fire started on the outside of the building near a common entryway. As a result, firefighters had to rescue those trapped since the only way to escape the building was blocked by the fire.<\/p>\n

Investigators say this was not a criminal incident. The fire is still under investigation.<\/p>

It is estimated that the fire caused $275,000 worth of damage. <\/p>\n
