GARNER, N.C. (WNCN) \u2013 A new lead could bring long-awaited answers in a 2004 Garner cold case. Joshua Davis was 16-years-old, a student at Garner High School who wanted to be an architect.\u00a0<\/p>

Josh and his friend were walking to play basketball in their neighborhood, when his friend had to run home and grab something. When he came back, Josh was lying on the side of Hall Blvd. covered in blood.\u00a0He was rushed to the hospital, where he died. <\/p>\n

His mother, Judy Creech, recalls seeing him in the hospital. She tells CBS 17 his only injury was a wound to the head. There were no bruises or scratches on him.\u00a0For years, Garner police called it a hit-and-run, but Creech says the autopsy report indicated foul play.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe autopsy report shows that he had a massive blow to his head that couldn\u2019t possibly have been in a car accident,\u201d Creech said.<\/p>

Recently, Detective M.N. Hammerstein took over the case, and now the Garner Police Department is investigating it as a homicide.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Investigators have named a Four Oaks Police Officer as a person of interest. That officer has not been charged.\u00a0<\/p>\n
