If you\u2019re making holiday weekend plans, be sure to take frequent breaks, stay hydrated, and limit strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day. <\/p>\n

High temperatures are expected to top out around 102 degrees on Sunday, and once again, the humidity will send \u201cfeels-like\u201d temperatures into the dangerous range. A strong ridge of high pressure remains locked in place, keeping rain chances very limited through the end of the holiday weekend. That means plenty of sunshine, but also little relief from the heat.<\/p>\n

Changes begin to arrive Monday as moisture starts to return and the ridge weakens just enough to allow for a better chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Scattered storms will develop with the daytime heating, and any storm that forms could produce torrential downpours, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. With the atmosphere loaded with moisture, localized heavy rainfall will be the main concern.<\/p>\n

By the middle and latter part of next week, we settle back into a more typical July\u00a0weather\u00a0pattern for central North Carolina. Highs will ease back into the low to mid 90s with the usual summertime mix of heat and humidity, along with isolated to scattered afternoon storms each day. While it will still feel hot, it will be much closer to average for this time of year and far less extreme than what we\u2019re dealing with this weekend.<\/p>\n
