CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) \u2014 One year since Tropical Storm Chantal ripped through Chapel Hill, a small business owner continues to be thankful for the community\u2019s support.<\/p>

Cinderella Riggsbee\u2019s The Shoe Repair has been in Chapel Hill since the early 1980\u2019s. But Tropical Storm Chantal washed away everything she\u2019d work so hard for.<\/p>\n

Riggsbee remembers the shock of walking into her flooded shop after Chantal came through.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was the biggest surprise I ever seen,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had made my mind up not to come back,\u201d she said. I said, \u201cI can\u2019t afford it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Riggsbee\u2019s mind changed when family, friends, neighbors, and strangers stepped in to help.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey did a GoFundMe page and I\u00a0saw how much people care for me and wanted me back,\u201d said Riggsbee. \u201cI went to work.\u201d<\/p>

With the help of that fundraiser, Riggsbee opened back up about three months after Chantal. She had to source three new specialty machines, but she is back to fixing shoes, purses, and belts.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you for helping me get back in,\u201d Riggsbee said. \u201cI know that they love me and they wanted me back. So, that\u2019s why I\u2019m back.\u201d<\/p>

The Shoe Repair moved one door down. Her new location used to house a Persian rug store that business did not survive the damage from the storm.<\/p>\n

Regardless of location, Riggsbee said she\u2019ll keep repairing anything customers bring her as long as she can.<\/p>
