RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) \u2014 Raleigh city officials said Wednesday that nearly 5,000 gallons of raw sewage overflowed into areas near the Neuse River after a sewer line was blocked.<\/p>

The overflow was discovered on Tuesday in the east Raleigh Village Lakes neighborhood at 701 Thistlegate Trail, coming from a sewer line cleanout in the rear of the address, according to a Raleigh news release on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The overflow, repaired by 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, was just feet from a lake in the neighborhood off North Rogers Lane, according to the news release and maps.<\/p>\n

With Crabtree Creek less than 1,500 feet from the overflow, officials said they estimated around 4,935 gallons of untreated wastewater flowed into \u201csurface waters.\u201d<\/p>

Crews also used hydraulic flush trucks to remove the blockage, which caused the overflow just blocks from the Neuse River. The project was completed at 12:34 p.m., officials said.<\/p>

\u201cAt this time, the cause of the blockage which led to the overflow has been attributed to debris being present within an 8-inch gravity sewer main,\u201d the news release said.<\/p>\n

No dead fish or damaged plants were found.<\/p>\n
