RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) \u2014 Authorities said crews are still active late Sunday afternoon on the third day of a massive wildfire at the North Carolina coast after two structures burned, and 30 homes were threatened a day earlier.<\/p>

The Brunswick County wildfire, which was reported around 8 p.m. Friday, near Shallotte and Ocean Isle Beach, remained just 50 percent contained late Sunday afternoon, according to the North Carolina Forest Service.<\/p>\n

As efforts appear likely to continue on Monday, dozens of firefighters from more than 20 agencies were still active in the Old Georgetown Road and Hale Swamp Road area, Brunswick County officials said.<\/p>\n

Air operations on Saturday afternoon led crews to lower the size estimate of the fire to around 285 acres \u2014 not the previously announced 500 acres on Saturday.<\/p>\n

\u201cDue to more accurate mapping and reconnaissance flight data, the fire is 300 acres in size,\u201d the forest service said about the blaze, officially called the Quarry Road Fire.<\/p>\n

Also Sunday, stories of bravery and heroes emerged from the fire.<\/p>\n

William B. of the Calabash Fire Department became a \u201clegend\u201d after he was caught on camera getting a baby to \u201csafety during a genuinely terrifying moment,\u201d Shallotte town officials said.<\/p>\n

A photo of the fireman carrying a small child to an SUV during the blaze was all over social media since Friday night.<\/p>\n

Calabash is along the South Carolina line, but William traveled more than 10 miles toward the fire in the Shallotte area \u2014 and then made the rescue just before 9 p.m. Friday.<\/p>\n

Town officials said, \u201cYou were out there being a real-life superhero.\u201d<\/p>\n
