HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) \u2014 A High Point man is awaiting extradition back to Orlando, Florida, in connection with a decades-old murder case.<\/p>

Willie Carpenter was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service North Carolina Regional Task Force on Friday. <\/p>\n

He lives in High Point, and his arrest comes 38 years after the murder of Orlando woman Diane Matthews, according to court records. <\/p>

She was found dead in September 1988 at her job. <\/p>\n

Officers collected DNA at the time, but the technology was not routinely used in criminal cases at that time. <\/p>\n

Investigators got a new lead and entered Carpenter\u2019s DNA, which had been collected during an unrelated case, into a criminal database that linked him to the scene. <\/p>
