{"id":593,"date":"2026-05-17T11:04:43","date_gmt":"2026-05-17T11:04:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/raleighmovingnews.com\/?p=593"},"modified":"2026-05-17T11:04:43","modified_gmt":"2026-05-17T11:04:43","slug":"a-drone-strike-causes-fire-outside-a-nuclear-power-plant-in-abu-dhabi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/raleighmovingnews.com\/?p=593","title":{"rendered":"A drone strike causes fire outside a nuclear power plant in Abu Dhabi"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) \u2014 A drone strike caused a fire outside a nuclear power plant in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, authorities in the United Arab Emirates said.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/raleighmovingnews.com\/?p=591\">Hawaii\u2019s worst flooding in 20 years leaves farmers struggling and fewer veggies at the market<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Abu Dhabi media office said in a statement that the fire broke out in an external electrical generator outside the perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Al Dhafra.<\/p>\n<p>There were no reports of injuries and there\u2019s no impact on radiological safety levels, it said.<\/p>\n<p>The UAE\u2019s nuclear regulator said the fire didn\u2019t impact the plant safety. \u201cAll units are operating as normal,\u201d the organization wrote on X.<\/p>\n<p>There was no claim of responsibility for the drone strike, and the UAE statement didn\u2019t blame any party for the attack. The Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations\u2019 nuclear watchdog, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday\u2019s strike marked the first time the four-reactor Barakah Nuclear Power Plant has been targeted in the Iran war. It\u2019s the first and only nuclear power plant on the Arabian Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>Nuclear power plants increasingly have found themselves targeted in wars in recent years, first during Russia\u2019s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. During the Iran war, Tehran repeatedly claimed its Bushehr nuclear power plant came under attack, though there was no direct damage to its Russian-run reactor nor any radiological release.<\/p>\n<p>There have been several instances of attacks around the Strait of Hormuz and Persian Gulf countries over the past several weeks.
