RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) \u2014 Urgent discussions about summer safety are bringing Raleigh residents together for a series of meetings focused on critical issues related to nightlife safety.<\/p>

The Raleigh Police Department has been hosting a summer safety series, and the Tuesday night session addressed nightlife safety.<\/p>\n

This meeting followed the recent \u201cteen takeovers\u201d in Raleigh, which involved large gatherings coordinated through social media over the Fourth of July weekend. These events drew up to 8,000 youths to areas like Brier Creek and Glenwood South, leading to significant unrest, including nine people being shot, 11 firearms being seized, and dozens of arrests. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope that people appreciate the vibrancy of Raleigh and understand that it\u2019s an honor to be in a place where people travel from all over. It\u2019s important to follow our rules,\u201d said Raleigh Police Officer Amanda Rolle.<\/p>\n

They advised attendees on getting to and from events safely, parking securely, and ensuring they have a safe ride home. They also highlighted their partnership with the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, through which they conduct foot patrols to engage with small businesses and maintain open lines of communication. <\/p>

\u201cWe want to connect with the community and encourage them to talk to us,\u201d said Phil Falco from the Raleigh Police Department. Falco emphasized the importance of communication, saying, \u201cIf you see something, say something.\u201d<\/p>\n

In response to recent incidents, Mayor Janet Cowell and Police Chief Rico Boyce are advocating for a citywide curfew for minors aged 17 and under.<\/p>\n
