CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (WJZY) \u2013 After 21 months of investigating and awaiting word from a prosecutor on whether to file charges, Chesterfield County\u2019s once top drug agent and his subordinate surrendered to a pair of S.C. Law Enforcement Division agents Monday.<\/p>

Former CCSO Sgt. Larry Tucker was the first to arrive at the jailhouse parking lot. He shut his truck off, walked across the gravel lot toward the silver Toyota SLED pickup truck. The agent reached behind his back and pulled out a pair of handcuffs and cinched them closed around Tucker\u2019s wrists.<\/p>\n

Tucker raised both hands in the air as the agent searched him. <\/p>\n

The agents put Tucker into the front seat and drove him into the jail\u2019s sally port, then walked him into the booking area. Tucker was charged with official misconduct.<\/p>\n

Minutes later, Mike Irvin, who ran Sheriff Cambo Streater\u2019s drug unit until October 2024, pulled into that same parking lot. He sat inside his car for a few minutes, then bolted for the jailhouse door. <\/p>\n

Irvin didn\u2019t wait for SLED to handcuff him and walk him into the jail. Irvin was silent and never said a word as Queen City News Chief Investigative Reporter Jody Barr questioned him about the allegations that he ordered Tucker to lie on a drug search warrant on Oct. 11, 2024. <\/p>\n

Both men sat in jail for a couple of hours Monday awaiting a bond hearing. SLED agents asked the judge for personal recognizance bonds because they cooperated in agreeing to surrender. This type of bond allows the men to be freed from jail based off their word they\u2019ll show up to court and not have to come up with cash to pay the bond. <\/p>\n

Judge Jeremy Lear set $5,000 PR bonds on both men. <\/p>\n

Sheriff Cambo Streater fired Tucker in February 2025, claiming Tucker was \u201cuntruthful\u201d to SLED during the state investigation. When pressed about whether Tucker told SLED a lie, misled agents, or withheld or omitted facts, Streater confirmed none of that happened. <\/p>\n

The sheriff used Tucker\u2019s polygraph result as the grounds to fire him. We haven\u2019t yet confirmed the results of that polygraph and we won\u2019t be able to obtain the result from SLED until the cases are adjudicated as SLED will not release case records on pending prosecutions under the state\u2019s open records act. <\/p>\n

Irvin, our sources confirmed, refused to submit to SLED\u2019s polygraph request. <\/p>\n

Tucker reported that Irvin, who supervised him, ordered him to type up a search warrant for a home on Legrande Street in Cheraw. Tucker said Irvin instructed him to write the following into the affidavit section of the search warrant: \u201cIn the last 72 hours a CI (Confidential Informant) made a Controlled Drug Purchase of Methamphetamine from the residence\u2026\u201d<\/p>

That drug buy had not happened at the time, sources told Barr. <\/p>\n

When Sgt. Larry Tucker typed a search warrant affidavit to raid a suspected drug dealer\u2019s home on Legrand Street in Cheraw on Oct. 11, he knew the information he typed into the warrant affidavit hadn\u2019t happened yet and wasn\u2019t true. <\/p>\n

\u201cIn the last 72 hours a CI (Confidential Informant) made a Controlled Drug Purchase of Methamphetamine from the residence\u2026,\u201d sources told us the warrant stated. Tucker said he cautioned Irvin about putting that false information into the search warrant.<\/p>\n

Our sources told Queen City News Chief Investigative Reporter Jody Barr that no one in the Chesterfield County Sheriff\u2019s Office\u2019s drug unit had purchased anything from the suspected drug dealer at the time.<\/p>\n

Tucker said his boss told him to type up the search warrant affidavit, claiming the drug buy had happened when it hadn\u2019t. The drug buy would\u2019ve established the probable cause needed to convince a judge to sign it. <\/p>\n

Larry Tucker was reassigned after he told the sheriff\u2019s office the head of the sheriff\u2019s drug unit directed him to get a judge to issue a search warrant based on a drug buy that never happened. Tucker confirmed to QCN that Irvin told him to take the warrant affidavit to a Chesterfield County magistrate with Mike Irvin\u2019s signature at the bottom and get the judge to sign it.<\/p>\n

Tucker drove the search warrant affidavit to Judge John Davis\u2019 home and the judge signed it. Within hours of getting the search warrant signed, Tucker was on the phone asking an old law enforcement friend for help and guidance. The drug cop knew what happened with that warrant should\u2019ve never happened. <\/p>\n

Larry Tucker was about to roll on his boss, a move that ultimately cost both men their jobs and led to their surrender outside the Chesterfield County jail. <\/p>
