They\u2019re aimed at giving law enforcement another tool to investigate crimes, locate stolen vehicles, and find missing people.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/raleighmovingnews.com\/?p=6739\">NC\u2019s first pediatric behavioral health care facility to open soon in Mecklenburg County<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But as the technology expands, so does the conversation surrounding it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvasion of privacy, if you ask me,\u201d said York County resident Kym Givens.<\/p>\n<p>Flock cameras or license plate readers.\u00a0Atlas of Surveillance, a police tech company, says York County has had at least 16 since last September.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6741\" height=\"514\" src=\"https:\/\/raleighmovingnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/4fc9f7fb04c9f1599a8c08f446e2e937.webp\" width=\"742\" srcset=\"https:\/\/raleighmovingnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/4fc9f7fb04c9f1599a8c08f446e2e937.webp 742w, https:\/\/raleighmovingnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/4fc9f7fb04c9f1599a8c08f446e2e937-300x208.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 742px) 100vw, 742px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n<p>But recently, devices like a Flock camera just outside of Winthrop University have caught people\u2019s attention. All of the people we spoke with Tuesday say the cameras could create more harm than good.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of those kids go to school. They don\u2019t have a South Carolina way because they\u2019re here to go to school. That\u2019s invading our privacy, because even though we\u2019re not doing anything we\u2019re not supposed to be doing, you\u2019re still recording all the time. There\u2019s so many cameras around here nowadays,\u201d said Emmie Richardson.<\/p>\n<p>Sheriff Breeden says since the cameras have been in use, it\u2019s helped deputies solve more than 250 cases, including armed robberies, larcenies and searches for missing people.<\/p>\n<p>He says his office will have safeguards in place to prevent deputies from misusing the system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur main priority is to protect the county, and we\u2019re going to use these tools to continue to protect the county,\u201d Sheriff Breeden said.\u00a0<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/raleighmovingnews.com\/?p=6733\">National Guard is deployed as flash floods in West Virginia inundate homes and businesses<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>YORK COUNTY, S.C.
