INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. (WJZY) \u2014 Music might be the closest thing we have to the fountain of youth. Local karaoke queen Carol Kelly uses her voice to bring joy to people.<\/p>

At Waltonwood Cotswold, we saw a woman wiggle with happiness on her way to watch Kelly perform for seniors.<\/p>\n

\u201cGoing there and bringing them music, it just brings a smile on their face,\u201d she told Queen City News.<\/p>\n

\u201cGrabbing that front row seat again, are you?\u201d Kelly said to a man who\u2019s become a fanboy in the front row.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is outstanding,\u201d says Murray Hudson. \u201cShe knows how to sing those songs with meaning and grace.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her repertoire includes everything from \u201cGod Bless America\u201d to \u201cBoogie Woogie Bugle Boy\u201d and other favorites from the 50s, 60s, and 70s.<\/p>\n

Kelly evokes patriotism and hopefully something more.<\/p>\n

\u201cI like to sing songs that they\u2019ll remember something by,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

Kelly is going to Las Vegas for the Karaoke World Championships USA National Finals. She\u2019s part of Team Carolina, which includes five adult soloists and five junior soloists.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was blessed to go last year. I did well, but I plan on doing better this year. I\u2019m taking home the gold this year, right? That\u2019s right!\u201d she explained to her audience at Waltonwood. \u201cIf you win in Las Vegas at the national finals, then you go to the global finals.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Vegas we\u2019re looking at costumes. It gets over the top for performance value,\u201d said Steve \u201cBowtie\u201d Bryant, who is the team representative.<\/p>

The team is fundraising to help with things like travel and costume expenses. Bryant is collecting donations for the team at the Venmo account @bowtiekaraoke.<\/p>\n

The juniors include 10-year-old Kaylee Hoffman and 15-year-old Lola Pinon-Vences of Rockingham.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very excited. I felt like I was going to explode. I was so happy when I won first place [in the state],\u201d Hoffman says, planning to sing hits by Heart, Pat Benatar, and Journey in Las Vegas. \u201cI hope I can win the big trophy for Team Carolina.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very honored that God has blessed me with the opportunity to represent my Junior age division and be a part of Team Carolina in Las Vegas,\u201d said Pinon-Vences, who will sing songs by Selena and The Cranberries.<\/p>\n

\u201cI enjoy being able to take a popular song and being able to use that to touch people\u2019s lives through music,\u201d Pinon-Vences says.<\/p>\n

Kelly will belt \u201cAmerica the Beautiful\u201d for the Vegas judges. She\u2019ll also deliver a shorter version of Led Zeppelin\u2019s \u201cStairway to Heaven.\u201d \u201cSomewhere Under the Rainbow\u201d is also on her list.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just love to perform. And this competition, I mean, who doesn\u2019t want to perform on a stage in Las Vegas, right?\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

Sin City is a different vibe than her elderly crowd. She loves to watch the senior group sing along, smile big, and tap their hands to the music in appreciation.<\/p>

\u201cThe elderly will be talking about it for hours afterwards,\u201d Kelly says.<\/p>\n

\u201cLifts our hearts and our hopes,\u201d said Murray in the front row.<\/p>\n

\u201cDoes she have a chance in Vegas?\u201d we asked.<\/p>\n
