PITTSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) \u2014 The Town of Pittsboro will end its contract for a license plate reader, officials said Wednesday.<\/p>\n

According to town officials, the Board of Commissioners discussed Pittsboro\u2019s contract with the Flock Safety ALPR system during their meeting on May 11.<\/p>\n

Following the discussion, according to town officials, the commissioners voted 4-1 to approve a motion terminating the contract.<\/p>\n

The termination includes all amendments, renewals, extensions, and additional camera authorizations in the contract, according to town officials.<\/p>\n

Officials said no funds in Pittsboro\u2019s 2026-27 budget will be used towards continuing or renewing the license plate reader system.<\/p>\n

According to town officials, town staff will inform Flock Safety to stop operation and use of the camera system and deactivate all its equipment.<\/p>\n

The equipment is expected to be removed no later than July 1, according to town officials.<\/p>\n
