ZEBULON, N.C. (WNCN) — A Nash County man was charged in a weekend eastern Wake County SUV crash that killed a 10-year-old boy and seriously injured two other young children, troopers said.

The crash was reported around 1:15 a.m. Saturday as a 2017 Ford Escape SUV was heading south along N.C. 96 near Doyle Road, north of Zebulon, according to a North Carolina State Highway Patrol news release.
Correll Jermaine Deans, 40, of Spring Hope, was driving the Ford when the vehicle traveled left of the centerline, went off the road to the left, and then hit a tree, troopers said.
“The driver fled the scene after the crash,” N.C. Highway Patrol Lt. Christopher D. Knox said in the release.

Troopers identified the child who died as Miking Daniel, age 10.
Two other children, ages 4 and 7, suffered serious injuries and were taken to WakeMed for treatment, the news release said.
A 35-year-old Rocky Mount woman was also taken to WakeMed with serious injuries.
The driver, Deans, was found later Saturday morning by troopers and deputies with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, Knox said.

The driver was taken to the Wake Detention Center and issued no bond.
“Additional charges are possible as the case continues,” Knox said.
