RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Rain has returned across the area. A cold front in the area will turn stationary today.

This splits central NC in half, with temperatures expected to rise into the 80s in the Sandhills and into the upper 60s to low 70s in the Triangle to the Virginia border.

The front will also allow showers to pop up throughout the day. Friday will not be a washout; scattered showers will be possible throughout the day.

On Saturday, the stationary boundary will start to erode with showers and storms likely once again. Just like Friday, the day will not be a washout. The best chance of rain will come from scattered showers in the morning and again late afternoon/evening with showers and storms.

The wet weather is likely to continue through Memorial Day, with moisture continuing to stream into central NC. Each afternoon, pop-up showers or storms will remain possible. The weather prediction center forecasts 2 to 3 inches of rain for the area over the next 7 days. This is much-needed rain as extreme drought remains in place.
