MORRISVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — NHL training camp is a week away, and Carolina Hurricanes players are working hard to be ready for it. Thursday morning at Lane Arena, a near full squad of Canes players were on the ice going through drills as well as a players-led scrimmage.

“We’re just getting in shape,” said Hurricanes center Sebastian Aho. “We have the same group, so we don’t have to get comfortable with each other. We’re already there, so it’s more getting into shape, competing and getting ready for the start of camp.”

The only concerning aspect of winning a Stanley Cup is the time and effort it takes do it. The Hurricanes have not had a whole lot of down time this summer following their epic run through the playoffs.

“I don’t think it will really affect us much,” said Hurricanes defenseman Sean Walker. “There’s still enough time to train and prepare properly. It is what it is, there’s no excuse heading into game one.”

Despite rolling through the playoffs with a 16-3 record a year ago, far too many are still not sold on the Canes.

“It’s great if people are going to try and doubt us a bit or don’t think we can bring that same intensity,” said Hurricanes center Logan Stankoven. “But with our group and the way our team is run and our culture, I think everyone is excited to hopefully go on another run.”
