This seventh grader has secured a spot in the top 5 in Russell Wilson’s Youth Athlete of the Year competition, a national program celebrating young athletes dedicated to giving back.
Balancing straight-A honor roll grades and training with the elite Carolina Swarm soccer team, Makai embodies hard work and determination.
“This would mean a lot to me because I could explore a lot of opportunities with this, with me winning this,” Makai said.

Makai’s mother, Janel Woodard, said, “I’ve always taught him to dream bigger. I think this opportunity will allow him to see that there’s so much more beyond what’s around him.”
