Memorial Day weekend is rainy, but not washed out in central NC

The cold front that has been stalled south of the Triangle on Friday will be moving back north this evening. That means any storms that develop on that front late will move north overnight, so expect showers and storms late. That will also bring back southerly flow and warmer temperatures for the weekend.

Saturday should start out mainly dry, but cloudy, with the best chance of rain arriving by the evening and continuing through the night. While Saturday brings the best chance for rain this weekend, we are not expecting rain every second of the day.

The first half of the day should be mainly dry, other than a passing shower, with storms and rain during the evening, as mentioned before. Sunday will be mainly cloudy but will also feature off-and-on rain, mainly during the second half of the day.

The wet weather is likely through Memorial Day with moisture continuing to stream into central North Carolina, so any cook-outs or Memorial Services should have an indoor backup. Each afternoon, pop-up showers or storms will remain possible.

The scattered chances for rain continue through the next week with up to 2” of possible rain over the next 7 days. This is much-needed rain as extreme drought remains in place.
