RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Three months after a sexual abuse lawsuit filed against him was dismissed, the former director of sports medicine at North Carolina State University was arrested Wednesday on more than 30 charges, records show.

Robert Michael Murphy Jr., who worked at NC State from 2012 to 2022, is charged with 23 counts of sexual battery and nine counts of felony sexual contact in North Carolina, according to jail records.
According to jail records, Murphy is facing a total 32 felonies.
Records show Murphy was arrested in Marion County, Florida as an out of state fugitive on Wednesday night. He remains in custody in Florida without bond as of early Thursday morning.
As of early Thursday morning, officials have not said when Murphy is expected to be extradited to North Carolina.
The arrest comes after 31 former NC State male athletes filed a lawsuit against Murphy in February in Wake County court in a case that began with a federal lawsuit from a single athlete filed in 2022.

The original complaint alleged years of misconduct by Murphy, including improper touching of the genitals during massages and intrusive observation while collecting urine samples during drug testing.
Murphy resigned as director of sports medicine in 2022 after the initial lawsuit.
In June, Wake County Superior Court Judge Bryan Collins granted a motion to dismiss claims against Murphy, ruling that the statute of limitations had expired in claims dating back as early as 2013.
