FORT MILL, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The suspect shot by York County law enforcement while serving a warrant Tuesday has died, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division reported Wednesday.

The York County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit and The York County Multi-Agency Drug Enforcement Unit were attempting to serve a warrant on 74-year-old Yves Venne at an apartment complex located on Clydesdales Court in Fort Mill, SLED officials said.

According to the sheriff’s office, authorities were serving Venne an ‘Internet Crimes Against Children’ warrant. He was a jazz pianist.

Rock Hill Police officers who are part of the units allegedly encountered Venne in the apartment armed with an object later determined to be a metal tire iron. During the encounter, officers shot him.

Venne was taken to the Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, where he was pronounced dead. No law enforcement officers were injured.

The York County Coroner says the autopsy and toxicology will be completed next week with results pending.
