Video shows semi-truck crash that killed child in Harnett County, NCSHP investigating

OLIVIA, N.C. (WNCN) — A child is dead following a three-vehicle crash in Harnett County Friday afternoon, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said.

According to the NCSHP, the crash involved a semi-truck and two SUVs at the intersection of N.C. 87 and Olivia Road around 3:30 p.m.

A video captured by a nearby business shows the semi-truck rear-end one of the SUVs, leading to the first SUV crashing into the second.

Troopers said a child under the age of 10 sitting in the backseat of the first SUV died in the crash. Another child in the vehicle was airlifted to the hospital.

An adult in the first SUV was also injured, according to the NCSHP.

According to the NCSHP, four people were inside of the second SUV. They were all taken to the hospital for observation purposes.

Troopers said the driver of the semi-truck was not injured and remained at the scene.

No further information has been provided by the NCSHP as of Friday evening. The incident remains under investigation.
