Investigation underway after woman burned in Greensboro van fire, police say

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A police investigation near West Gate City Boulevard caused a road closure on Wednesday morning, according to the Greensboro Police Department.

The Greensboro Fire Department says firefighters responded to the initial call and got on scene at about 4:15 a.m. 

Police were dispatched to support soon after. 

Boulevard Way was closed from West Gate City Boulevard to Boulevard Street as a result of the investigation for much of the morning, but has since reopened.

Police say that a woman suffered second-degree burns at the scene. Footage shows a grey minivan with severe damage.

Investigation Underway

Arson investigators and crime scene investigators swabbed the minivan, photographed the scene and eventually towed away the van.

One person said they saw the scene on their way home from work and may have recognized the van as a car that frequently parks in the area.

“I saw a van smoking. I thought they were practicing,” Laquisha Robinson said. 

The GFD confirms they are investigating the cause of the fire.

Greensboro police confirm they are also investigating the incident.
