RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — On a day with a forecast of near 100 degrees in central North Carolina, the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for five counties Sunday afternoon.

The warning, issued at 4:35 p.m., includes Durham County and parts of Orange, Granville, Wake, and Franklin counties, the weather service said.
The warning said that a severe thunderstorm was located over Hillsborough, moving east at 35 mph.
The weather service said that the warning lasts until 5:15 p.m. with 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail possible.
“Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees,” the warning said.

Cities and areas in the warning area include Durham, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, Creedmoor, Carrboro, Butner, Youngsville, Stem, Efland, and Lake Michie.
“For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building,” the warning said.
