Our summer-like heat is back. Highs are soaring back into the 90s, with a high of 98 degrees expected Thursday afternoon. This is not only 10 degrees warmer than average for this time of year, but it could tie a record for the day, which was set back in 2015.

A few storms are possible late in the day, and they could produce gusty winds, but the chance for storms remains low during the day.
The better chance for rain arrives overnight Thursday into Friday. Moisture from a tropical wave moves toward the Carolinas and interacts with an approaching cold front on Friday. While not a drought buster, as much as 0.50” to 0.75” of rain is expected, with higher amounts possible in the Sandhills, as the core of the tropical moisture will likely stay closer to the coast.
Slightly lower humidity arrives just in time for the Carolina Hurricanes Stanley Cup Championship parade on Saturday, but it will still be very warm with highs in the upper 80s. The dry weather continues for Father’s Day, but it will be a hot Sunday with high temperatures climbing back into the mid-90s.
Next week starts in the mid-90s on Monday before a weak front helps temperatures fall into the upper 80s and low 90s the rest of the week.
