The American Postal Workers Union, which represents U.S. Postal Service workers and some in private firms, launched a 30-second ad in Raleigh on Wednesday.
The commercial features people explaining why they choose to vote by mail, including workers, college students, people with disabilities, and service members.
The union says people have been voting by mail since the Civil War, but the process has become increasingly politicized in recent years.
“That’s why we’re here rolling out this ad,” said Daniel Matthews, the NC Council President of the American Postal Workers Union. “Because there’s been a lot of misconception about the postal workers and what would happen with their mail.”

Matthews says that election mail gets extra attention, including sweeps of postal facilities to make sure ballots are processed and moved out each night.
The union also released a national poll it commissioned, showing about one in three voters regularly vote by mail, including nearly half of seniors.
The poll also found eight in 10 people who vote by mail feel confident about the process.
