DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — The Duke University Health System is seeking more than 100 new acute care health beds at its main hospital, state officials said Thursday.

The healthcare system filed a certificate of need application to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, requesting 135 acute care beds at Duke University Hospital, according to state officials.
The cost of the Duke Hospital project is $35.9 million and it would be completed by July 2028 if approved, according to the NCDHHS.
State officials said a public hearing on the Duke Hospital project is scheduled for June 17 at 1 p.m. in room 1040 of the Duke University Health System Building located at 4825 Creekstone Parkway in Durham.
The healthcare system also filed a certificate of need application with the NCDHHS for 22 acute health care beds at Duke Regional Hospital, according to state officials.
If approved, according to NCDHHS, the Duke Regional project would be completed by September 2028. It is expected to cost $23 million.

According to NCDHHS, a public hearing on the Duke Regional project is scheduled for June 18 at 11 a.m. in the Community Room of the Duke Behavioral Health North Durham Building, on the first floor of Duke Regional Hospital, at 3643 N. Roxboro St. in Durham.
Officials said Duke Health is seeking more acute care beds at both hospitals in response to a need determination in the 2026 State Medical Facilities Plan.
