Father’s Day weekend will be rain-free after some much-needed rain fell across central North Carolina late Thursday and then all morning Friday. Some areas received inches of measurable rain.

RDU Airport recorded 1.01 inches of rain on Friday morning, which is the highest one-day total since February.

The rain was due to the tropical moisture left over from Tropical Storm Arthur paired with a cold front, and behind it the humidity will be lower and more comfortable Saturday.

The first half of the day will be very comfortable, but temperatures will climb quickly during the afternoon with highs reaching the upper 80s.

Sunday will be a hot day with highs reaching the mid-90s and the humidity will also increase, making it feel just a bit more muggy by the end of the day. We’ll stay hot in the mid-90s Monday ahead of another cold front, which will bring a few storms late in the day.

The cold front won’t slide through central North Carolina until early Tuesday morning, so expect storms the first part of Tuesday, but then the front stalls out just off the coast. This will keep temperatures in the low 90s and keep scattered storms in the forecast every day next week.
