According to the Vance County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified around 1:30 p.m. Monday about an inmate who had attempted to escape and was injured during the incident.
Authorities identified the inmate as Mahlon Hebron. According to investigators, Hebron gained access to a set of detention center keys, left his housing unit, climbed onto the roof through a roof hatch and tried to jump over the facility’s two exterior security fences.
