RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Two people were seriously injured in a fiery SUV crash in a shopping and hotel area near RDU Airport in northwest Raleigh on Saturday afternoon, the Raleigh Police Department said.

The crash was reported just after 1:20 p.m. in the 3900 block of Macaw Street, a small road cutting through Brier Creek Commons shopping center near Target and Regal Brier Creek movie theater, officers said.
The crash involved a single SUV, a white late-model Chevrolet Blazer, which caught fire during the wreck, according to Raleigh police.
Two people in the SUV were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, officers said.

The SUV fire, near the I-540 and Glenwood Avenue interchange, was extinguished by the Raleigh Fire Department.

Images showed the Blazer had crash damage, including on the roof from a possible rollover. Most fire damage appeared to be near the front of the SUV, which was also missing the front passenger wheel.

Macaw Street extends from the shopping center to The Westin Raleigh-Durham Airport hotel and a Hampton Inn along Arco Corporate Drive.

Macaw Street was closed for an extended period after the wreck while officers continued to investigate the crash.
