Dangerous heat continues through the holiday weekend for central NC

This weekend could be the hottest Fourth of July on record for central North Carolina and to make matters worse, the humidity will be high enough to create a heat index up to near 110°!

Most of us remember the hottest Fourth of July because it happened only two years ago in 2024 when we recorded a high temperature of 101°. Our current forecast is for 103° Saturday afternoon!

The hot conditions are going to be persistent though the holiday and into early next week with triple digit heat expected through Monday.

A stray shower or storm can’t be ruled out Saturday and Sunday, but our best chance for rain arrives early next week as the strong high pressure keeping us hot and dry finally starts to break down.

While temperatures won’t be cool, they will at least be cooler and closer to what is typical for July with highs in the low 90s.

SUNDAY will be partly cloudy and very hot. The high will be 102 with a heat index of 108. Winds will be southwest at 5 to 10 miles per hour.
