Jordan Lake search continues for teen swimmer who vanished near family’s boat

SEAFORTH, N.C. (WNCN) — Deputies in Chatham County are continuing a search Sunday at Jordan Lake for a missing teen swimmer who vanished Saturday evening.

The incident was reported around 6:30 p.m. involving a teenager who was on a boating trip to the lake with family members, according to a Chatham County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The teen “encountered trouble in the water while swimming from the family’s boat,” the release said.

Soon, an extensive search started at the lake, deputies said.

Late Saturday night, deputies said the search was suspended and would continue Sunday.

Deputies said other agencies assisting in the search include:

  • The North Chatham Fire Department
  • Alamance County Rescue
  • FirstHealth EMS
  • Chatham County Emergency Management
  • The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission
  • North Carolina State Parks

“The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office thanks all assisting agencies and personnel for their continued efforts and support during this search,” deputies said.
