Another round of strong storms and severe weather is possible Tuesday in central North Carolina. While we may not see triple-digit temperatures like we did over the holiday weekend, temperatures will be in the 90s, and heat index values will be above 100 Tuesday.

Most of central North Carolina is in a level 1 marginal risk for severe weather again on Tuesday afternoon and evening. Damaging wind gusts are the most likely threat, in addition to heavy rain and lightning. Temperatures on Tuesday will once again climb into the mid- to lower 90s, with heat index temperatures near 100°.
Wednesday will look and feel a lot like Tuesday, with temperatures back in the 90s and scattered showers and thunderstorms developing in the afternoon and evening. While it won’t be a washout, any storm that develops could produce torrential downpours, frequent lightning, and gusty winds. Localized heavy rainfall will be possible where storms repeatedly move over the same locations.
Later this week, temperatures climb into the mid-90s, and rain chances lower to only 20% in the afternoon and evening.
Typical summer-like conditions persist this weekend with highs in the 90s and scattered afternoon storms. One thing we don’t have on the extended forecast is 100 degree temperatures or record high temperatures. It won’t be cool, but it won’t be what we just lived through over the July 4th weekend.
