DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — This year’s election shook up the school board in Durham with voters electing three new members and one former member.

Nadeen Bir, Gabby Rivero, Natalie Bent Kitaif and Xavier Cason all took the oath of office on Monday during a swearing-in ceremony at the district headquarters.
During the meeting, school board members also named Joy Harrell Goff as chairwoman for the upcoming semester.

Cason, who previously served on the board six years ago, was voted vice-chair.
“This is a very important task for all of us here sitting on this dais and it’s very important that we all continue to lead with our heart, we lead with what we know is best for children in Durham Public Schools,” DPS school board member Wendell Tabb said.
The Durham Association of Educators endorsed all four of the new board members, who are now set to serve four-year terms.
