(NewsNation) — Dolly Parton is headed to Broadway!
Based on the life of the music icon, “Dolly: A True Original Musical” will open on Broadway this winter, Parton announced Tuesday.

“The rhinestones were never the whole story,” the singer wrote in the caption of her Instagram video announcement.
“This isn’t about a story about sparkle and shine on the outside,” the singer said in the video, where she is sitting and holding her guitar. “It’s about where I really come from: where I’ve lived, what I’ve lost, what I’ve loved and how I’ve found my way and told it in my own words and through the music that’s been part of me every step of the journey.”

She added that the Broadway production is “a dream come true” and will feature some of her famous hits as well as new music.

Preview performances of “Dolly: A True Original Musical” begin Dec. 7 in New York City. The show will officially open on Broadway on Parton’s 81st birthday — Jan. 19, 2027.
Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher will direct the show, which will tell how the “9 to 5” singer became a star. “From the top of the Smoky Mountains to the top of the world, DOLLY captures how she dreamed, dared, stumbled, and soared,” according to the show’s synopsis.
Presale tickets go on sale July 8, with general on-sale tickets being available July 10.
