Quick warmup with highs back near 100 degrees for central NC

After an abnormally cool Monday, temperatures quickly return to the upper 90s by the end of the week. In the meantime, expect lingering showers that will eventually come to an end overnight, leaving behind mainly cloudy skies as you wake up Tuesday morning.

Tuesday will start out cloudy, but skies will slowly clear during the day with high temperatures rebounding back into the upper 80s. Still cooler than our normal high of 91, but closer than the unusually cool Monday we just experienced. By Wednesday, we’re feeling more like July with high temperatures back in the low and mid-90s.

Temperatures will get even hotter, flirting with the triple digits by Thursday and Friday as another strong high pressure takes control of our weather. Not only will this heat up temperatures, but it will also make rain chances much lower. While a few dry days will be nice after a rainy weekend, more rain is still needed to erase the drought across the state.

Unlike our last heatwave, this high pressure moves out pretty quickly and highs will drop slightly into the low 90s to end the week, and rain chances go back to what we expect in July: spotty during the afternoon and evening.
