Investigators believe the courthouse shooting was an act of retaliation connected to the June 23 fatal shooting of 16-year-old Ladarrius “D’baby” Simmons, according to the sheriff. Authorities said the woman who was shot outside the courthouse is related to the suspect charged in Simmons’ killing.
According to Wilson police, a 17-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with murder in Simmons’ death on June 28.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is leading the probe into the officer-involved shooting, while the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office continues investigating the initial shooting outside the courthouse.
