ROSEBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — A driver remains on the run after leading law enforcement on a chase through two counties before crashing into a Johnston County sheriff’s patrol vehicle and fleeing on foot in Sampson County, authorities said Thursday.

According to the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit began in Johnston County late Wednesday night before deputies joined the chase after it entered Sampson County.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office confirmed to CBS 17 that the suspect vehicle struck a Johnston County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle during the pursuit. No injuries were reported.

Authorities said the chase ended when the suspect drove off the roadway and came to a stop in a ditch along Old Cotton Gin Road near Roseboro. The driver then exited the vehicle and ran away from the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies conducted an extensive search of the area, but the suspect had not been located as of Thursday morning, according to the sheriff’s office.
