Residents displaced after Raleigh apartment fire spreads, impacting 16 units off West Millbrook Road

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Fire officials in Raleigh are investigating the cause of a blaze that impacted 16 apartment units early Sunday morning.

The fire at The Timbers Apartments was reported around 1:40 a.m. at 5900 Timber Creek Lane off West Millbrook Road near Leesville Road, according to the Raleigh Fire Department.

The fire started in the kitchen of one unit and spread into the attic, fire officials said.

Only one unit was damaged by the fire, but because of damage in the attic, power was cut to 15 other units in the building, officials said.

No one was injured in the fire, but one resident was checked by EMS crews at the scene.

The call initially required one fire crew, but additional units were sent to help rotate firefighters from activity because of high humidity and heat, said Raleigh Fire Division Chief Robert Hodge.

Although the fire was out relatively quickly, crews were on the scene until about 5 a.m. to make sure the blaze did not reignite.

It’s not clear how many people were displaced by the fire — some of the apartment units were vacant.

CBS 17 has reached out to Red Cross officials to ask how many residents were displaced.
