MONROE, N.C. (WJZY) — Two escaped macaw parrots were reunited with their owners after escaping this weekend.

The first escape happened early Saturday. Officers were contacted by an upset bird owner who said their pet parrot became startled and flew away while they were on Main Street.
The Monroe Police Department shared a photo of the beautiful bird on Facebook, hoping the community would help locate the missing parrot.
Thankfully, within an hour, an off-duty officer called in after spotting the bird from the social media post.
Afterwards, the owner was able to safely reunite with their beloved companion.
“Today is a great reminder that social media isn’t just for sharing news. It can also bring a community together to help someone in need,” the police department says. “A huge thank you to everyone who shared our post and brought this story to a happy ending. Sometimes the smallest cases leave the biggest smiles.”
“Come here, buddy!”
Another macaw decided to go sightseeing Saturday in Matthews, the Fire & EMS department reports.

The department’s F.L.O.C.K team (Feathered Life Operations, Capture & Kindness) was called after Zi, the macaw, was spotted taking a tour of the town near the corner of John Street and Trade Street. His owner was standing on top of a box truck trying to convince Zi to come back.
Firefighters deployed ladders to access the roof and began what they called “high-level avian negotiations.”

“Initial offers of “Come here, buddy!” were politely declined,” the department said.
Officials say bargaining, reassuring voices and a “healthy amount of patience” eventually won Zi over, and he was safely brought back to the ground and reunited with his owner.
“We’re happy to report Zi is back where he belongs, the F.L.O.C.K. Team remains undefeated, and Matthews has one less feathered fugitive on the loose,” Matthews Fire jokes.
