$850,000 in federal funding announced to improve Jones Sausage Road in Garner

GARNER, N.C. (WNCN) — A project to improve a road in Garner will receive $850,000 in federal funding, officials said Monday.

Rep. Deborah Ross and Garner Mayor Buddy Gupton announced the $850,000 for Jones Sausage Road during an event on Monday morning.

According to officials, the funding will be used towards safety and capacity improvements on Jones Sausage Road.

The project will involve widening the road, upgrades to intersections, new sidewalks, enhancements to pedestrian, improving transit access, and more turn lanes in order to increase safety and traffic flow, according to officials.

Officials said the project will create a greenway connection to a new 75-acre public park and a planned mixed-use development with housing and commercial space.

The funding for the Jones Sausage Road improvements will be provided through an appropriations project passed by the U.S. House of Representatives in January that included $6.75 million for Wake County, according to Ross’ office.

“Jones Sausage Road has become a really busy place because of all the businesses there,” Ross said at the event. “It used to be a country road with just a factory on it. Now, it’s important to make sure it gets the infrastructure upgrades it needs and keeps people safe as they’re going to work, going to the park, and going home.”
