DUNN, N.C. (WNCN) — The woman accused of causing a fire that killed a boy at a Dunn apartment complex on the Fourth of July has been released on bond, court records show.

According to the Dunn Police Department, the fire broke out at the Ashbrooke Apartments on East Pope Street just before 11 p.m. on July 4. 35-year-old Brittany Raquel Armstrong, an apartment resident, allegedly set off illegal fireworks that caused the blaze.
Cashmere Elijah Parker, 7, died during the incident. Two others, including his stepfather, were injured while trying to save him and four apartments were damaged, according to Dunn police.
Police said Armstrong is charged with involuntary manslaughter, burning buildings, and possession of pyrotechnics. She was taken into custody on July 7 after failing to turn herself in.

Armstrong made her first appearance in Harnett County court the following day, July 8, and was released on a $75,000 secured bond, according to records.
According to court records, Armstrong made her next appearance for a disposition hearing on Tuesday and was granted a motion to continue the hearing. Armstrong is scheduled to return on Sept. 8.
