RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Starting January 1, 2027 a new Medicaid law goes into effect that will impact hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians. Some of the changes for those who are 19 to 64 years old include proof that Medicaid enrollees work, volunteer, or go to school. They will also have to renew every six months.

The new law also impacts the immigrant community. Many non-citizens will no longer qualify for Medicaid and those who do need to enroll by October 1, 2026.
