The National Hurricane Center is watching two areas in the eastern tropical Atlantic. The more likely one to form is farther east (the right one in orange) with a 60% chance of formation this week.

This system has a better chance of overcoming the Saharan dust to develop. The system will track west this week toward the Caribbean, and many computer models have it eventually forming into a depression and turning north. It could also strengthen into Tropical Storm Cristobal.
Still, there’s a high amount of uncertainty with systems this far out and unorganized, so stay tuned. It’s also very far away, and even if it were to head for North Carolina, it’s more than a week away.

If it does make it near the Caribbean this weekend, the upper level winds that are usually strong in El Niño year could tear it apart.
