RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Repairs have been completed at one of three elementary schools in Wake County that was deemed unsafe last month, officials said Monday.

In July, Wake County Public School System officials announced Durant Road, Creech Road, and Davis Drive elementary schools would undergo repairs after they learned certain walls and the connections between walls and other components did not align with approved construction plans.
On Monday, as part of a weekly project update, district officials said construction at Durant Road had been completed and students and staff are permitted to return.
According to district officials, Durant Road will open to students and staff as scheduled. All classrooms and other spaces that were affected by the construction have been cleaned and their furniture configurations have been restored.

“We are very pleased to have one of three schools behind us,” district officials said in statement. “We thank the board, contractors, designers, inspection teams, district staff, school staff, parents/students, and the community at large for your patience and trust to pursue these necessary repairs.”
Repairs to Creech Road and Davis Drive are continuing on schedule, according to district officials.
Officials said the total cost of the repairs is expected to cost the district $5.6 million.
