RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — For the third day in a row, central North Carolina is in the midst of record-high temperatures and the official start of summer is still a ways off.

Tuesday’s new record high for RDU is 97 degrees — the hottest temperature the Triangle has seen in almost 10 months. It breaks the record set all the way back in 1962, when it was 95 degrees.

According to CBS 17 Chief Meteorologist Wes Hohenstein, July is normally the hottest month of the year for NC with temperatures hovering around 91 to 92 degrees, but the numbers over the past three days are surpassing those.

We have one more day in the 90s ahead, with Wednesday being forecasted to reach 95 degrees, before a cooler day in the high 80s on Thursday.
These temperatures mark the 10th time this year a record in the Triangle has been broken or tied.
