CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — Former North Carolina Tar Heels player Seth Trimble is heading to Louisville.

The guard, who played four years in Chapel Hill, told ESPN he will be spending the 2026-27 season with the Louisville Cardinals after entering the transfer portal.
Trimble’s move to Louisville comes following a court order that granted an extra year of eligibility to athletes who graduated high school in 2022. A lawsuit was filed late last month by more than 50 former college athletes arguing they were unfairly excluded by the NCAA’s new eligibility rules.

Although Trimble was not part of the lawsuit, he was among the 2022 high school graduates who benefitted from the court’s ruling.
Trimble played 24 games for UNC during the 2025-26 season, averaging 14 points and three assists. The highlight of his year came when he hit a last second 3-pointer to upset longtime rival and fourth-ranked Duke in February. He was also named UNC’s Defensive Player of the Year.
